Reading Week

Went down to Canterbury, even though it's reading week. Comparative Politics research group was a waste of time feedback session on Paolo Dardinelli's draft paper on the EU, MLG and realist games. Not my area and nothing to do with my interests. He got ripped apart and wasn't too happy about it. Saw Fiona Smith about her dissertation - Taiwan and security questions around China and the US. She seems to be straying into identity, though, and I advised her to keep away from that.

A couple of papers by Shih Cheng-fong on Taiwan identities: Ethnic Identity and National Identity is about mainlanders and Taiwan-China relations, while National Identity and National Security - The Case of Taiwan does what it says on the tin. Got a good reference from someone in the research group - Steering by Ancient Lights - a study of national identity and national policy formulation.

Some Katzenstein sources: Collective Identity, Regionalism and the Origins of Multilateralism , a roundtable on Katzenstein's contributions to East asian regionalism, a book review of  Regionalism in Comparative Perspective , Cosmopolitan Democracy and National Identity , and Rethinking Asian Security .
